they freak out when you get into MSDOS/Command prompt
Published on January 11, 2005 By MadPyro In WinCustomize Talk
so funny. it started with a net send message to my friend saying "hi"

problem is that we arent supposed to be able to get into drive C: to access the command.com file right? wrong. easy enough to access it using any application out there. MORONS

ok, so i net send a message to my friend... that was yesterday...

today, 6th period, 2 security personelle come in to escort me to the friggin principals office. HA! i need no escort... i walk calmly to the office and sit down to wait.

chat a little with the security morons and find out that this is about MSDOS and me. quickly, i formulate a plan in my mind: bullshit em so much that they wont even know it.

so, finally, the principal calls me in and asks me to sit down, the two security morons on either side of me.

"so, do you know what this is about?"
"well kind of, steve [security moron #1] hinted that its about msdos stuff"
"yes, you see, we have disabled command prompt from these school computers for a reason, so that kids [pauses] cant harm the school's system and somehow, you managed to get into it and did something there..."
"yes?"
"and we feel that this may pose a threat to our system"
"*chuckle*"
"whats so funny?"
"well, you see, two things;
1. command prompt isnt disabled, its hidden in drive C: to which the system doesnt allow access.
2. MSDOS cant do much against xp. all i did was test sending a message to a friend using net send, it worked so i was like sweet!"
"yes and we feel that this can be a threat to us."
"sir, if i wanted to screw up the school system, there are alot easier ways of doing that. and if i wanted to screw it up, i would NOT use my account to do it from"
"hm..."
"see, on windows Xp, you disabled access to drive C:. when i am bored, i screw around... one day, while trying to load objects for lightwave into lightwave, i was forced to find a way to get into drive C:."
"yes...?"*takes notes*
"so, all i did was open lightwave, go file....open....browse... and in the address bar, type "C:". all that did was throw me to "my documents", i found this kind of funny since it should show "drive C: inaccessible" so i hit the "up one level" button and it took me back one level, i hit it a couple more times and Ooo... drive c: bingo! i opened lightwave and objects and i was able to load an object."
"yes? and how does this make you able to open command prompt?"
"same way i opened that i can open command.com... see? go windows/system32/command.com [opens it on hit computer]"
"i see... and how do you do this 'net send'thing?"
"*sigh* [type 'net send maloym test'] see? message arrives saying test"
"i see...."
*scribbles notes*
[i notice security morons leaning to see it too]
****bell rings****
"saved by the bell... can i go catch my bus? you can call me in tomorrow"
"ok, i will call you in around 3rd period"
"ok {[mutter] sheesh...}"

heart pounding, i pick up my backpack and head out the door... i walk by the front desk and notice the secretary staring at me with a dissaproving glance....

-----------to be continued tomorrow after the next debate--------------------

wish me luck, i cant get suspended, im a senior and i need to finish this year...

bally47.....this ain't the boys lockerroom, it's a public forum on a family-oriented site.....clean up your language

SNK: I wonder how true this is anymore. With the JU integration, it's difficult. At JU, anything goes, while here we used to have "family oriented" rules. So, the JU users that post in the shared forums aren't used (or even aware) of those "family" restrictions.
Personaly, I too find that since WC is integrated with JU, the content of the forums tend to be a bit more harsh at times, and I think it's because JU is a blog site where you're expected to say what you think, where flaming and trolling is an everyday thing, so when some JU users post here (or on the shared forums), they don't see anything wrong with that, it's just the way it always was.
I realised that when I test-drove JU for a few weeks or so. I can now say that it's not for me. Too many posts and comments were ticking me off, too many bigot, racist, extremist people over there that see nothing wrong with insulting other people. OK well, it's maybe always the same people, but they're awfully active. Anyway,I'm done. Not going back over there anymore. I value my mental health. LOL

Anyway. Sorry if I got off topic a bit (a lot), but just to say that this isn't the family site it was anymore. I think it's considered to be "PG-13".

Hey paxx....so true about JU and I wondered, I think I even asked in a post, when the new WC came onboard if threads marked as adult content over at JU would end up over here on the shared messageboards. I don't think I ever got an answer on that one.

I work around building contractors, so I've heard and probably said plenty worse than what bally47 said. There's just a place and time for everything. I guess WC is just getting a little more rough around the edges as it matures or maybe as it immatures

as it immatures

There is the capacity to disconnect individual threads fron the JU-WC connection....so any that want to be connected either need to be moderate in content or they can be removed from WC Forum visibility.

There should be no concerns about a potential loss of 'family value' as such....

school admins r dumb... but they found out about the music on my account... i'll get them sum day

hehe... school admins ARE dumb... one of the admins came up to me one day since i was sitting at a computer but not really using it, and he asked me to log on to some account which ran a network update... anyway, he GAVE me the user and password to an ADMIN acct... how much dumber than that can you get?

(I havn't done anything with the account though... so you guys cant rant at me about honor and moral codes, etc. )

At my school, they don't protect anything... i can still access C: drive, i can access msdos, only thing I can't do is modify the registry. Even though they let you access msdos, they still get on your case in a big way if you use netsend though; i personally think that is stupid. netsend is about the most harmless thing you could do with msdos.

The 'correct' thing to do, since the admin is 'dumb' and you claim not to be is to inform the admin of his blunder and educate him in the appropriate course of action, ie. to alter passwords, etc to prevent unauthorised [your] access.

That is the RESPONSIBLE action....

When my son was suspended from school, I put him to work so he would realise where he was better off, getting an education!
Responsible parents support the school when a student breaks the rules, including reasonable discipline deemed appropriate to establish what is acceptable or unacceptable. Otherwise, the acceptable code of conduct in schools cannot be maintained.
It seems that Pyro knows he"s done wrong but is unable to accept the parental type guidance offered here. However, that's normal, and as most teenagers do, in time, he will come around and do the right things. Well let's hope so, and for those of us who have some skeletons in our closets from our youth, let's not be too harsh and give him a chance to redeem himself.
